"If you are looking for a guide to fish the Canterbury area, look no further. I was fortunate to fish with Martin Langlands for 6 days in November.

Martin is a very hard working, knowledgeable guide. He is constantly trying to evolve by studying what the fish eats and trying new ways to imitate that. He really knows a huge area in Canterbury and was able to make every day a great one by finding big fish and helping me catch them."

Single Day Trip out of Christchurch

Aptly named “The Garden City”, Christchurch is picturesque and lush in culture, being a great base for the non-fishing partner.

Brown trout can be found in the river Avon, a pristine spring creek that runs through the city centre (no fishing allowed however!).

There are many great rivers and lakes 30-90 minutes drive from Christchurch surprising many visiting anglers.

Christchurch is emerging after the earthquake in 2011 with the exciting rebuild, only some parts of the city were affected.

Multi Day Packages (our most popular option)

These trips vary from 2-12 days in length with 5-6 days being the most common.

On collection from Christchurch, (or meeting at another location) we drive to an appropriate fishing base chosen strategically to suit the weather, water conditions and your preferences. Flexibility yields the best rewards. We are often based in small country villages/towns with nearby accommodation, meals, refreshments, and other services nearby. Being as close to a good selection of fishable waters eliminates drive time.

Accommodation will vary depending on your taste and budget from camping, cabins, motels, luxury lodges, B & B’s or Farm Stays. Locations vary from 1-3 hours drive from Christchurch.

For longer trips a popular option is a “Road Trip Adventure”. Here a few base locations are used to suit your preferences and the conditions. If you want to experience scenic diversity, “off the beaten track” nature, a chance to meet the locals and foster friendships then this is the trip for you!!

Orientation Package

This 1-2 day trip is designed for visiting anglers and travellers who intend to fish the South Island without a guide. South Island fishing techniques, approach, methods, rigs and trout flies will be demonstrated and instructed.

This package also includes detailed maps with information about locations and access, a set of unique trout fly patterns crafted by Martin and support via email/phone whilst in New Zealand.

client-testimonial“I have just spent eleven days fishing with Martin in the Canterbury area and I gladly give my testimony. Martin accommodated our wishes in every respect and guided us to fishable high-potential waters regardless of the weather/wind situation. We asked for the hard-going backcountry experience, and yes, we got it! Martin is up for every style of fishing: hiking ten miles on freestone headwaters with countless river crossings is on the daily menu just as much as stalking big browns on spring creeks. His knowledge about the Kiwi aquatic entomology and his very own style of tying productive patterns helped our hunt for that trophy as did his intimate knowledge of his home waters. Our catches resembled that photo above, with the “big-big-big-boy” getting away, by wrapping the leader around a sunken log. But what should I tell You? Go and try yourself! Martin will show you where and how. The rest is up to you, or to quote Martin: “Fortune is with the brave”!
Tight lines!  Michael from Germany (March 2012)
